     Be sure that you hire a home inspector who is a member of the American Society Of Home Inspectors.  This is your best guarantee of a home inspector with training, education, and experience.

Be cautious when choosing someone to inspect your home.  In Florida there is no State licensing or any form of oversight of home inspectors.  All that is needed to start a "home inspection" company is to obtain a "local occupational license" (a business tax receipt) and perhaps print some business cards. 

Also, there is no uniform standard specifying the scope of what is evaluated and reported on during a "home inspection".

To ensure that you get a competent inspector, check the inspector's experience, qualifications, ask lots of questions, and choose wisely. Using an unqualified or inadequate inspector may end up costing you thousands of dollars, not just the wasted inspection fee of a few hundred dollars.
